Yep, still alive, and someday soon I'll even be able to make the verbose post of What I've Been Up To Lately.

In the meantime... do any of my Dreamwidth-using friend use a Mac client program that will let them make posts directly to DW? I can use Semagic quite nicely on my Windows desktop, but I've got to actually use the Entry Post page when I'm on my Mac laptop.

I was using XJournal on this Mac, but it doesn't allow to configure it to post to DW instead....

I thought, therefore I twittered:

On phone with Hp support, hoping they can fix my desktop computer.

Still on support call--we've rebooted 11 times by my count.

Reboots passed #17, and then the 2nd tech declared that the nuclear option was our only hope. So now I have to find a repair shop to back up

But first, lunch and AC.

Found a locakl computer shop that can back me up. Not looking forward to reinstalling all my software, but it seems like no choice....

My desktop is now in the hands of Angeltronics, who seem clueful and hardworking. Hope to have it back tomorrow AM. Til then, it's iBook.

Not at class tonight, still coughing & miserable & not in the mood to learn more about XML, though not spreading my cold is good too.

Not coughing and only intermittently sniffly. I wouldn't go so far as to call myself well, but I'm going to be more productive, for sure.

Remember the new consignment shop that I emailed hoping they'd trade a piece of costume jewelry for an extensive and professional-level web page redesign?

They're not interested.

* It currently looks sort of like this:

* My tentative redesign looked like this:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/photo.php?pid=191348&id=1553689854

At least I got some practice in, but geeze Louise.

I didn't Twitter (or for that matter, get online) last night, because I got a distressed phone call from Mom last night, who is Not Doing All That Well. She's in bad pain, because it seems a vertebra in her back has cracked or collapsed or crumbled -- I'm not sure from her description, but according to my brother, spinal surgery may be necessary. This was just as she was bouncing back from the pulmonary hypertension, getting less dependent on the oxygen and stronger, down to one visit a day from an aide, and on her own.

So she called last night, pretty upset. I don't know if I can do much good, but I'll head back down for general hand-holding and escorting her to doctors, et cetera.

To top it all off, I woke up from an upsetting dream this morning where I and my brother couldn't get home from PA and Mom was refusing to let us borrow her car (which she can't use, even in real life) and was calling me selfish and a bitch, and was generally nasty... which you know, isn't true and definitely not what she does in reality. Definitely a Paging Dr. Freud type of dream there.

I think I'll try taking my desktop computer with me -- I can at least do some schoolwork or independent study while I spend my days down there, instead of faffing away on teh Interwebs. Luckily last night I parked my car in front of the house instead of up the street in my parking space, so that's something.

I did get really down in the dumps yesterday when I found out that I got defriended by somebody whose real-life friendship I value greatly. That they don't have the 2 minutes or so to catch up with one of my typical posts these days seems the final nail in a coffin marked "Great Person Who Has Given Up Liking Me."

On the other hand, I know what it is to have a busy life, and to try to cut down the amount of time one is taking for online pursuits, not to mention the fact that many of my enthusiasms and pursuits have wandered a bit over the past few years. (Yes, I still do love Due South and Hugh Dillon, to name just two major fascinations whom I've spent a lot of past time on. And I'm not writing at the moment, though since that seems to come and go in my life, I will probably start up again... sometime.)

In the spirit that it hurts less if you RIIIPPPPPPPPP off the Bandaid, I'm declaring a defriending amnesty today. If reading my posts is one more chore on your way to the good stuff, if you're going to scream if I complain once more about being unemployed or feel like groaning when I post a picture, or are rolling your eyes when you read a bunch of disconnected Tweets: it's OK to check out.

I won't lie and say it doesn't hurt me, but I feel it will be better if I don't put people -- that I really do like and would love to share stuff with -- in the position of feeling obligated to read here.

Please understand that this isn't a plea for "reassure me that you like me" -- not that I don't like attention from my friends, but I don't want the attention you get setting up people to give you a pat on the head. I've disabled comments on this post, and I pledge not to check the list of "people who have friended me back" for... I dunno, at least a month if I can stand it.

(It would probably be better if I never checked that list at all, but if my friended-back-list gets down to ten people who haven't checked LJ in a couple years, I should give up journaling here, you know?)

Sorry for not being updatey this week, I end up feeling like I've got dozens of things to write about, all of which will be intensely boring and/or already out of date.

Work work work with a side of work sauce )

Today I've already worked a couple of hours -- from home, happily, and without too much stress or worry. I also had time to run out and get some grocery shopping done and stop by the vet's to pick up a very large bag of prescription cat food... which I decided had to go into air-tight containers. Large containers... which it turns out that I had to scrounge up out of the backs of cabinets and stuff. And then there was the pouring from the large bag, which the cats watched with desperate fascination.
