Currently, 2009 could be starting out better -- Mom has developed a regurgitant murmur that led to pulmonary hypertension, as well as serious swelling in her extremities and gut.  They're unable to do much about the murmur because of her age (87!) but they're treating her with diuretics which are proceeding pretty well, so I'll be able to leave her side in PA soon.

Except that I've come down with a really good case of stomach flu, so have spent the entire day in bed while my brother runs around after Mom.  I haven't had flu in YEARS... forgotten how bad it can be.

So, 2009 starts with me unemployed, Mom sick and me sick too.  That leaves us nowhere to go but up, right?

...is that this post was composed over on Vox, but appears here in LJ.  Be interesting to see how it gets transformed, et cetera.

Other than that, there's not much to mark this of any interest whatsoever....

Anybody reading this, do you have Vox or another blogging site set up to automatically post to your LJ? Is it easy to do that? Any very simple instructions on how to do that?

I'm thinking of starting a general-purpose blog to keep family members apprised of my job search, et cetera, so I don't want to point them here, but it would be nice to have the posts automatically appear here, too....

Heh. Noticed this morning that Colbert has changed the theme word on his intro from "LINCOLNISH" to "SUPERSTANTIAL". It started out as GRIPPY, then went to something else that I can't remember, except it wasn't as good as GRIPPY....

PS I still have 4 Vox invites!

1. Only made a couple of rows progress on the sweater this week, but then they're long rows. Perhaps I'll knit more this weekend.

2. No TDS and Colbert Report make for a longer week than usual. On the other hand, Bones returned, and there were episodes of Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, 30 Days and Life on Mars to amuse me, among other ongoing series.

3. I still haven't found the time to try more vidding (despite having the damn program loaded in the background on my laptop for most of this week) or even playing Sims.

4. Didn't make it to midweek yoga, either.

5. Monday at work was rush-rush, because my coworker on this project, Sally, was leaving for vacation on Tuesday, and there's still a lot to be done. Tuesday and Wednesday, I read over all the code she'd left and tried to comprehend it, with seeming little success. All through this I'm getting little bulletins from the 'business owner', reporting this 'n' that as she tested various aspects, which was giving me Too Much to deal with.

However, Thursday morning, I found that she'd left me a really coherent memo of all the problems, stating pretty plainly a comprehensible list of what (usually relatively) minor things needed fixing, like notification emails that didn't contain pertinent data -- and much to my surprise I found that I could just jump in with both feet and fix 'em, knocking off the list like nobody's business. I think I did more on Thursday and Friday than the last two weeks, and that was without missing out much on my daily browsing... it's like all that code finally "clicked" in my head.

5a. I hope, in general, this means I'm getting over my post-Vividcon exhaustion. I desperately need some brain-rebooting.

6. I went over Thursday night to [livejournal.com profile] vwbug's old Cambridge apartment for Operation Take Out The Garbage, as the landlord/lady were being absolute pills and a couple of willing friendly hands made it a much quicker and less stressful exit. I took particular pleasure, at one point, making my way s l o w l y down the tall two flights of stairs with an awkward-looking load as the bitch landlady trailed after -- she'd walked into the apartment unannounced as we were cleaning up. Since I couldn't say anything that would get my friend in trouble, I'm happy to take out a little passive-aggression....

7. I heard the first series, animated, of The Tick is out today! Spoon!

8. I have 4 Vox invites now. I seem to be mostly using it as a reading and viewing list, with additional pictures now and then. If you want one, let me know....
