DS Flashfiction Stats III (Hourglass)

For my own edification, I'm slowly going through the postings in [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction and databasing stats about the stories that appeared therein -- see the previous entry if you want to know the stats for the first challenge, this will cover stats for the second challenge ("Hourglass" comprising stories between 4/30 and 5/6).

Same rules for this one -- my subjective judgement on pairing, POV, rating, using the Word word count feature if the author didn't supply a page count.

So on with the stats for Challenge #3, Hourglass....

Length

Average Length: 614.28
Shortest Story (5 way tie): 100 words -- cmshaw, Halimede, lmondegreen, prudentia, stellamaris
Longest Story: 1520 words -- "Sparks" by Beth H.
Total wordage for 32 stories: 19657 words

Note: there were two stories of exactly 1000 words, and six stories over 1K.

Rating

NC-17: 7
R: 13
PG: 7
G: 2

Note the cluster around R ratings (perhaps since the stories, set over a period of at least five years, tended more toward the long-term romance end of the spectrum?).

Point of View

3rd-Fraser
3rd-Kowalski
1st-Thatcher
1st-Victoria
3rd-Francesca
3rd-Omniscient
3rd-Turnbull
3rd-Vecchio
3rd-Welsh

3rd person is the clear winner in this challenge, with only 8 stories told from first person.

Pairing by Frequency

F/K - (21)
None - (6)
K/Stella - (4)
K/V - (4)
F/Frannie - (2)
K/Other - (2)

38 overall pairings in the stories, yes, because some had more than one referenced, particularly the back story of Stella and RayK. To no one's surprise, Fraser/Kowalski is still the runaway favorite.

I'm thinking of holding back on the accumulated stats until I've got Challenge IV completely entered -- Challenge V is actually finished. It takes a couple hours to do each challenge, because I've got to read through each one -- yeah, tough work that. I've got to say... there is a lot of really good reading there. Really, the overall quality of these stories, both from a quantitative level of grammar and spelling, plus the more qualitative "fun reading" factor, is astounding.

As someone who lives with profound dyscalculia, I'm amazed and in awe of the amount of talent you display here. You've also managed to make me understand how a graph works for the first time in my life. Thank you so much and I hope you decide to continue with this.
