Bah! Insomnia!

I suspect all the dust and such down in the cellar got the best of my sinuses, because I woke up in the middle of the night with a good-sized headache. Hopefully the ibuprofen and Sudafed will conquer it soon.

At least I have the possibility of sleeping a little late if I can -- I don't have to go in until late, because the plumber is coming 9-9:30 to hook up the stove properly.

Somehow the gigantic stove box got over to the curb. I'm wondering if a neighbor helped or something, I'm not sure that Rosemary would have wrestled it over there. I'd quite forgotten about it in the excitement of the evening....

Cookin' with Gas!

Yes, I am! Well not at this moment, but the gas stove has been properly installed, including the anti-tip device, so there will be no range-tipping on my watch, honey!

The plumber was a gregarious sort so we discussed plumber's training and proper stove usage, et cetera. I found out that the goop he coats the screw-in fittings with is a long-term lubricant, so that in 20 years if somebody else has to unscrew it, the steel won't have rusted both parts together. One thing you get with a professional who regularly works with old old parts and systems is a concern for the poor schmuck who will inherit the job you left behind, I think, plus he plainly cares that his customers do depend on him for a safe installation.

He lit all the burners and oven and broiler to make sure that it was all in order, and explained there would be a little smell the first time because for shipping, there's a light coat of oil on everything because these gets shipped overseas, et cetera. So the smoke alarm went off until I turned on the exhaust fan.

He was a little concerned because the "glow plug" on the broiler stayed on -- that is the element that lights the gas -- so I called Yale Appliance and Lighting and talked to a nice tech guy who assured us that on this model that is standard, so all was well. That the plumber cared about something like that is to his credit.

Now I have to get to work, going in insanely late, but at least I have a stove.

(Looking through the manual, I discovered that my new stove has a Sabbath mode, so if I ever decide to convert to Orthodox Judaism, I'll be able to use it. Keeping my options open through appliances!)
