spring chicken
Two things made me smile this morning....
First, just as I was about to leave the house, I switched on the TV. This is my second-best anti-burglary strategy (locking the door being the first best) -- leave the TV on, blaring loudly and the casual burglar will be detered from entering the premises on the suspicion that someone is home.
And what was playing on it... courtesy of my TiVo Suggestions feature, but Delicatessen, a truly favorite film of mine, and the scene that was just starting is where the handyman goes into repair squeaky bedsprings. Like so many scenes in that movie, it is a marvel, as he and the mistress of the landlord bounce chastely on the bed, trying to determine the location of the squeak, to the tune that is playing on her TV, a Hawaiian song. Just... wonderful! Even that small scene made me grin big.
And the second thing that made me smile... as I'm going down the street, starting my walk to the subway, I pass the chicken house... and who do I see running away down the front stairs and then down the driveway away from me, but the feral chicken I've mentioned here before.
Even better, the home owner is standing just beyond the open gate at the end of the driveway, and we see each other, wave, and laugh.
This is a very good way to start the day, all things considered.

Also for the feral chicken update, because the thought of wandering poultry in your area amuses the heck out of me.
