I saw geese flying in vees today! Among the pleasures of driving up to NH when the leaves are just beginning to turn!
It was a very pleasant visit with friends -- I saw a couple I haven't run into for months and months! Plus the 11mo-old nephew of a friend came by (with parental escort) for a quick visit. He's still pre-verbal, but obviously starting to get that there's this language thing that's intensely neat and useful.
He's also not walking yet. Well, not taking free-standing steps, anyway. His parents think -- and I agree, seeing how he pulls himself up and balances, and lets go of what he's holding onto, that's he's theoretically capable of walking by now... he just doesn't choose to. If he needs to get somewhere in a hurry, crawling is just as fast, and safer. I suggested that he'll start walking once his legs get long enough that it would be faster....
Such a cute little monkey -- I told my friends, who compromise two aunts and an uncle, that it's damn shame that he isn't surrounded by adults who dote on his every move. :-) He was on very good behavior, only making noise when the attention on him started to lag.
One of the friends has just acquired a theremin, which if you've never seen one is an electronic musical instrument that you control by waving your hands various distances from the antennas attached to it. My friend Louise amused us all by picking up the baby and waving him briefly around the pitch antenna -- he was completely enchanted by the noise and attention -- but, still, this was so damn cute....
It was a good weekend, but jeeze louise, am I tired from it!
(Note about the current music -- no, I didn't pick that song because it fit this posting....)

Maybe that's a technique Jon should learn....
