Jan 13 -- Think of it as a really REALLY toxic pearl
From my current Twitter stream:
As ER visits go, this was surely a good one -- not that I've had that many. There was a lot of waiting around, but most importantly I WAS NOT IN PAIN during most of it. The lack of pain makes a lot of things bearable! Also, Readsalot left her dinner mid-cooking to come get me and drive me over and KEEP ME COMPANY so the hours went by pretty fast.
I went to Somerville Hospital, which has the advantage of being about a mile away AND is small and quiet as ERs go, so you don't wait long for someone to see you. Not the place you'd want to go for a major accident or gunshot wound, but good for something like this.
This morning, I'm not in pain AT ALL, at least so far. I have the CT scan summary which says that it was a pretty damn tiny stone, which unstuck should depart without more of a fuss. Still going to call the PCP, though.
- 08:26 wow, slept late with vivid dreams, too. Cats are SO slacking #
- 08:34 @TamarasBrain -- I'm serious that the only game system I've ever wanted was a Wii -- it plays the way my brain works. #
- 12:23 Had a bout of queasiness, but took two tbsp of anti-nausea med and it seems to have passed. #
- 12:50 You know, I need a 2009 calendar! ::makes addition to to-do list:: #
- 13:59 applied to a handful more jobs. is not very encouraged. #
- 14:30 is happy her gmail inbox has no unread items now. #
- 19:32 Cramps getting out of control, so I'm going to see the ER #
- 00:00 is back from long ER visit with a good diagnosis: a kidney stone! And importantly, no more pain. #
- 00:04 Was NOT cramps... that's just the closest thing they felt like. Clearly the tummy needs better, more specific pain reception. #

Also, as I'm reading about kidney stones, ignoring the pain without medical advice is a bad idea, because a completely stuck ureter can kill a kidney, AND medical intervention works so very well, too.
