Jan 10 - Mom Must Be Getting Better, She's Annoying Again

From my current Twitter stream:

  • 07:30 I woke up and didn't immediately remember that I was sick. This is improvement. Mom is looking better, too! #

  • 08:21 Winterstorm warning today through tomorrow, which squashes any hope I had for getting home today! #

  • 11:17 I know I'm getting better, because I'm antsy to get home and have privacy again. Nothing wrong that 4 or 5 more rooms wouldn't fix. #

  • 14:29 My aunt was so proud that she remembered to buy some meat that wasn't beef so I could eat it. It was... VEAL! #

  • 16:51 hung out with Aunt and brother watching BACK TO BATAAN and wondering at young Anthony Quinn. Also, casual racism. #

  • 21:22 Aunt not only confused about VEAL, she also tried to serve me macaroni and cheese. She's nearly 80, so I suppose she's forgiveable. #

  • 22:49 Why does my family not want to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, and why don't they understand that earplugs are not enough for me to sleep? #

  • 23:03 WHY is my brother running the dishwasher and watching a football game? He's sleeping in the kitchen and there's no door between us. #

  • 23:07 In the bedroom my aunt is asking my Mom to turn UP the TV volume. How am I related to these people and why don't I kill 'em in their sleep? #

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't you think that it's polite to make allowances if there's a family member in a very small apartment with known, lifelong sleeping problems that when it's bedtime (past 11!) and you all have to be up at 7:30 because a home health aide is coming by at 7:30 sharp, that you, you know, should be QUIET? And yet, if I'm the one to complain, I'm somehow the one in the wrong?

Mom is deaf as a stone without her hearing aids and my Aunt is in the same room, which at least has a thick door (which Mom is refusing to close all the way as it impedes air circulation). My brother is sleeping on an air mattress in the kitchen, which has an archway into the living room where I'm on the couch.

It's just... I get the feeling that despite a lifetime history of sleeping like the princess and the pea, I'm somehow "just faking" and if I would just, you know, CONCENTRATE and SUCK IT UP I'd be able to get to sleep.

Thank good Mom is noticeably getting better day to day still, which means I can leave here and go home where my bedroom is QUIET, and then I don't have to murder them all to get some peace and quiet....

Richard points out that veal and beef have only one letter in common, so they must be different!

I sympathize with your sleeping problems. People who don't need quiet to sleep seem to have an intrinsic lack of ability to understand what it means when you tell them that you can't sleep because there's sound.

I used to travel with a friend. I can not sleep if I hear breathing. My body tries to synchronize and just can't, so I start gasping. I really sympathize.

*snugs*. Its good that everyone is getting better. May the weather be good and you soon be nice in cozy in your own bed sleeping soundly.
