Jan 05 -- Not A Great Diagnosis

From my current Twitter stream:

  • 07:54 The 'Castro Convertible' at Mom's is actually super-comfortable. Still, I feel a bit gronky. #

  • 11:39 went to get Mom's mail, had to wait 15 minutes until the mailmen finished with all the boxes. Such is the excitement here. #

  • 12:46 I was just cheered up a little bit to realize that TDS/Colbert is back in production again tonight after break! So Much Material!!!1! #

  • 18:57 The diagnosis is pulmonary hyptension caused by some severe heart valve backwash, so they're starting her on major diuretics #

  • 22:57 Brother John has come, so I have backup on talking Mom off the virtual ledge. Actually, she looks and sounds lots better now. #

  • 05:05 What's worse than a snorer is an inconsistent one -- one loud snore every ten minutes or so. Must.not.kill.brother.... #

My brother John arrived just after we got out of the doctor's office, so I had a companion in talking Mom back from believing she'd just been handed a Death Sentence. With the fluid backup under control she could be pretty damn comfortable and able to get around, too -- off oxygen, too, I hope.

More later on this, I think. In the meantime, the diuretic seems to be doing its magic, at least in the amount she's complaining about having to pee. When Mom is well enough to complain, it's a GOOD thing.

Yikes!

That said, complaining is good. Eating is also good. Is she eating? Richard's stepfather was on oxygen for several years with chronic lung problems, but the real decline, at least to my eyes, happened when he started losing weight and wasn't interested in trying to get it back.

Hugs, and do let me know if there's anything I can do.
