Back Again

I'm home! I'm home! <does a little dance around her study, startling the cats who have been 'pretending' she's not there> Our flight from Chicago to Boston had one ten minute stretch where the pilot entered some still air and got on the PA to urge the passengers to use the facilities, because they weren't going to get another chance before landing. It was bumpy enough that I had to put away my laptop to guard against it accidentally hitting me in the face on one of the more vigorous bumps.

The pilot also got on the PA to tell us, "You paid for an airplane ride, and golly, you're going to get one."

I'm still relocating my stomach back into the place that it normally occupies. It kind of helped that the pilot was loquacious, because he pretty much knew (from reports from other pilots ahead of him) when we were going to enter some major turbulence, and would get on the PA to tell us.

Also, he reassured us that there was no disadvantage to flying United, as all the other planes in the air were having the same kind of ride. Then he paused a perfect beat, and added "Even Southwest."

Our flight in fact got on a landing approach -- gear down -- and then veered off because of strong crosswinds on the runway as a thunderstorm went through. I won't complain at all about landing a little late if it's because the pilot is looking out for my safety.

(The first song that KDRadio played for me -- after a week of being away from it -- was "Working for the Man" by Roy Orbison. How appropriate!)

Tomorrow I have the choice of taking a comp day and staying home to recover, or going in to work to try to pick up the pieces. I expect I'll get a few calls from the coworkers I left behind at the conference -- which is not over. (The Powers That Be decreed that there would be no further problems requiring an expert Notes/database person after the second day of the conference. Too bad the problems aren't behaving in accordance with that dictate....) I'm going to play it by ear, right now I feel like I maybe could...

LOL! Welcome home and glad you landed safely.
