If Computers Could Pray....
So, earlier this week I sent away for a copy of Toast 8 Titanium, which sounded like it would be just the sort of thing that would let me back up my external hard drive (now that I have one) and especially be able to make incremental backups of my iTunes library files, which after my little crash experience, I'm particularly desirous of having.
So Toast came in the mail, and I opened it up, and discovered that it only runs with the Tiger version of OS X... which I don't have. sigh
You do see what's coming, right? I've been meaning since like forever to upgrade to Tiger anyway, so I sent away for a copy of that. It's one of those inevitable domino-like processes -- you get one thing (hard drive) that necessitates another thing (better backup software) that necessitates another thing (new operating system). I can only hope it ends there.
Of course, I almost did talk myself into buying a home theatre system so I could switch TV inputs without getting up off the couch this week, so the iBook software upgrade is small beans by comparison, right?
So, anyway, I've backed up the entire hard disk, I've read through the instructions very carefully ("Install and Archive" and "Preserve Users and Network Settings", check) and I might as well get on with it.
If you don't hear from me again -- well, you will, I've got the work computer sitting right over there. So I have hopes of having it all covered, you know?
