So... sometimes international terrorism sort of kind of works in your favor.
In my case, I'd forgotten that my flight reservation was for Thursday and my hotel reservations were for Friday... so no big deal, I call last night and get an extra night tacked on, for a slightly ouchy price that I wouldn't be able to split with a roommate, but OK, it was still cheaper than changing my flight arrangements, and I thought I might be able to find people to hang with tonight at the hotel.
Except... well, I didn't sleep well, and ran around like a crazy person this AM getting packed, so I didn't check the news OR call the airline to check on my flight status. So when I got to the airport there was TREMENDOUS lines at American, and the status board said my flight was OMGWTFCANCELLED!!1!
Yeah, hadn't been paying much attention to the news, so the terror plot in the UK had only been a single line in my Google news... it never occurred to me that it would have a ripple effect across US airlines, but evidently a bunch of planes that were supposed to land here from the UK aren't, and American is particularly hit hard....
So I call the number posted to rearrange travel, and the best the lady can do is put me on a connecting flight through Raleigh, and after all that I might not get in until 6 PM or later (that's assuming there weren't any cancellations out of my connecting airport.)
And at that point, I asked if there were any flights tomorrow morning, and there were, so I'm going to skip paying for an extra hotel night, and have a much easier time of it tomorrow, especially since I'm already packed.
Oh, and I'm at work right now, writing this up. Because while I'm at it, I might as well not burn up a vacation day sitting around my house and wondering what wonderful sights I'd be seeing in Chicago if only International Terrorists hadn't almost struck again, sortof.
So I'm still a "Go" for Vividcon, and I'll probably be much more well-rested, have more money to spend, and have that extra day of vacation later this year, so while it's not a big win, it's at least a draw.

I think I'll make plans to go to VVC next year! Lots of lovely people seem to attend.
