VCD for Macs?

Does any of my Friend's List have experience with creating VCDs on a Mac? I found one program, iVCD, that does actually work... but it costs $29.95.

I don't have a DVD-writing drive, so that avenue is out.

I know it works because I tried it, and while it took over 12 hours to run, it did produce a VCD that played on the Toshiba DVD player. However, because this is a demo program, all frames of the VCD have large letters on them identifying the name of the program, the program company and the fact that it was created with a demo version.

Which, you know, is fair. I really just wanted to try out the program. There are occasionally programs that I want to copy out so I can share them with friends on the TVs rather than watching them solely on the computer. (Remember when we watched Global Frequency on the laptop?)

On the other hand, instead of $30 for a program, putting the money towards an external DVD-writer that I can connect to either the iBook or my Windows work laptop would make good sense....

I haven't had much time to play with this because I was looking for a program to do something else, but ffmpegX is supposed to make VCDs. I think it's open source, too, so registration may be optional and if not is only $15. Anyway, you can download it and try it.

Oooh... I shall give this a try. For a very occasional usage, which is what I need. The only movies/shows I'd turn into VCDs would be stuff not available commercially or for special uses, like friends without computers and so on.

I can definitely hook you up here. Do you have Toast Titanium? If not I will upload it for you and give you a step by step on how to create DVDs.

Nope, no Toast here. Does it actually make VCDs? I'm trying the ffmpegx thingie right now... we'll see how well it does.
