My Weekend Report
So yesterday was an odd mix of good and bad. The good parts were the aforementioned yoga, and getting some much-needed shopping for delicious things done. And then in the afternoon I fell into a post-yoga coma, so I didn't get any of the housework (much needed -- I still have all the stuff I brought home from NJ last week cluttering up the first floor) down, and then I took a shower in the brief hope that it would help my incipient headache.
And so even though I felt ick, I went out with
tsuki_no_bara to see The Corpse Bride, which had come to the nearby Somerville Theatre. I was quite pleasantly distracted from the headache by the movie -- has it been a great year for animation or what? (I may be including The Incredibles in this year's movies, but that may be because I've watched it on DVD a couple times so far.)
(I'm also mentally tagging Mirrormask as an animation, even if it technically is live action. It just feels that way, you know? Particularly since it all looks like a Dave McKean comic book to me, which is, um, very impressionistic, to say the least. Did you know he drew a long string of my much-beloved New Mutants comic book?)
Anyway, after the movie, I came home, ate a little dinner, sat and worked on untangling a skein of blue-dyed ribbon yarn that had gotten grievously messy while watching Barking Mad, and gradually realized that my headache had really taken a turn for the worse, as in making me dizzy and nauseous in addition to the pain. It seemed to be mostly concentrated in my sinuses, though I was not stopped up, just that horrid front-of-the-face pressure.
Even though it was only 9 PM, I decided that I'd try the next thing that sometimes works*, which is to take some Actifed (which usually unstops the worst of sinus/cold symptoms, but ALSO puts me to sleep) and lie down.
I'm not sure how soon it began to work, but I woke up briefly at 12:30 to get a drink of water and note that the headache had largely gone. Then I was pretty much unconscious until the cats work me up at 6....
* The first thing that sometimes works is a very hot shower -- but I'd already had one. (The second thing is very spicy food, but not only had I already eaten, the time that places deliver generally cuts out after 9....)
