Yarny Stuff

I went to the Boston Knit-Out "festival" yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] vwbug, which had exhibit tables from most of the major yarn/knitting shops in the region, as well as a fashion show. I'm used to seeing pictures of finished sweaters, shawls, afghans and so on -- either online or in books and magazines, but the ability to touch and examine the real articles was overwhelming. I really was like a kid in a candy store, except it was a yarn store. :-)

So now I have about half a dozen different things I want to try, including these mittlets from a shop in Concord NH called The Elegant Ewe. I'm thinking I could adapt a regular mitten pattern, so that I could get the cross-palm gusset -- it looks like it would ease the pull of the thumb on the rest of the mitten pretty good.

I would so try to adapt a regular mitten patt, with a gusset, because that doesn't look comfortable. I'm also not seeing the point of the rolled st st edge. Isn't that just going to get in the way? Why not a ribbed edge - three or four rounds - or even a seed st edge or something?

I was on their website yesterday. They have a kit for that lace poncho that I liked for $41. I'm SO gonna do it!
