SciFi Extravanganza & Squeefest

A few scattered thoughts on last night's Sci Fi Friday (Half) Seasonal Finale Extravanganza and Squeeefest....

(Let's see how far I get before [livejournal.com profile] aviatrix18 comes to pick me up...)

Aurora

* When you stop to think about the situation of the Ancient ship, how depressing! The crew is all too old to be successfully awakened, and they're being used by the Wraith to betray their secrets... how evil is that?

* Hottie cross-dressing Wraith! Rodney's "I disgust myself sometimes!" I laughed like a drain. And now I hear the sound of a thousand fics being written, too.

* "Virtual environment!" Go pedantic HewlettMcKay!

* Loved McKay waking himself out of the virtuality to type on his keyboard and reset things. And obviously thinking he was so clever to wake up the Wraith... only to realize too late that he'd be facing a wide-awake Wraith. Ooopsie!

The Lost Boys

* Ford! Another toxic Peter Pan for my collection of woobies!

* Once again, the secondary characters are having actual personalities and presence. A sign of quality drama, you know?

* Loved the McKay/Sheppard interactions in this and the previous show. They've got each other's backs, for sure.

* McKay panicked over drugs in the food, and drugs in general. "This is why I never toked in high school!" (approximately) And Sheppard's glowering.

* Teyla and Ronon! On drugs ichor Wraith venom! Is that sound I hear the scritching of ten thousand fanfic pens? Must be....

* "That is a stupid plan!" Heh. That plan was so stupid that if you stuck a feather in its tail, it'd be a Dodo.

* Was it Ronon who childishly knocked over a chair to express his disgust? I loved it, an expressive bit of business -- another example of good direction on this.

* Nice cliffhanger! Oh, and we get to see another She-Wraith, who evidently are as rare as Smurfettes.

* Loved the rematerializing and the guys falling into the depths. Oopsie!

Battlewagon Hysterica

* Hey, despite my pet name for it, once again the crown jewel in the current SF media firmament. Bring on the pain, the angst, the high stakes....

* Near-raped Boomer, and her emotional reaction afterwards, pulling the blanket off the bed over her for protection

* Tigh and Fisk, sharing drinks and trading stories, XO to XO, and how that turned out to be a very very good thing. Because the Admiral clearly didn't want Adama to find out until well after Tyrol and Helo had been executed.

* Now I'm wondering if the Pegasus CAG had "special orders" to put Apollo in harm's way on their little expedition. It's not paranoid if they're really out to get you.

* The growing horror in the scene where Helo and Tyrol and the rest of the deck crew find out how the Pegasus Cylon got treated.

* Both Virtual!Six and Gaius's reactions to the state of Pegasus!Six.

* Virtual!Six accusing Gaius of being a scientist as he tried to find out the condition of the P!6 -- un-emotional. Like... a robot, you know?

* The whole monologue by Gaius, sitting in the cell.

* Tricia Helfer, in particular here and in general.

* The situation at the end! Yikes! And we have to wait until January? (This applies to SGA as well.)

Yes, that. What you said.

I was sort of pleased they'd cast a woman as hardassed Adm. Cain. But now I'm getting a faint stink of "if she'd been a man things wouldn't have gotten so far out of hand," sort of a woman-driver situation. Also, Michele Forbes should sometime get a sympathetic role.

>>Virtual!Six accusing Gaius of being a scientist as he tried to find out the condition of the P!6 -- un-emotional. Like... a robot, you know?<<

virtual!six just got more and more human as the show progressed, so that didn't surprise me at all. i felt worse for gaius than i did for her, mostly because of his speech to pegasus!six, when he was telling her about his own six and how he still loves her. the whole treatment of p!six was horrible from the get-go. and i wasn't remotely surprised that chief and helo acted the way they did when they realized that's what was going to happen to sharon.

(i didn't pay attention to the entire episode but i was watching during those parts. i'm really really liking chief and helo. and gaius, who seemed particularly sane this time out.)

aurora made me squee like a squeeing thing. there is no bad there. ^_^ rodney cracks me up. "are you sure you want to do this?" "i'm pretty sure i do NOT." hee. and there was some fabulous bickering between him and sheppard, oh yes there was.

and i mostly missed lost boys because i'm kind of eh on the ford-with-enzyme thing....

And in Aurora, McKay saying something like, "Will you get out of my way? Sheppard and I have a habit of saving each other's lives, and it's my turn now."

I said to the tv at that point "that's because he's your boyfriend".

Such fic-bait all over the place.

Yes!

What I said at that point was, "oh, the sheppard/mckay shippers are going to go wild now".

my thoughts

Aurora
I was annoyed at Sheppards tendency to make flip comments rather than actually, you know, explain to the Ancients what was actually happening. I was also kind of surprised that Ronon thought chess was silly--most successful fighters think that strategy is a good thing.

The Lost Boys
Only vaguely watched while working on my Japanese homework. I did like it when Teyla and Ronon got all irritable.

Pegasus
Whee! The minute an Admiral showed up, I knew that everything would be very bad by the end of the episode, but I had no idea just how bad. I don't see how the Pegasus CAG can put Apollo in harm's way without being killed himself, since they are both in the same ship. But he's a clever boy, maybe he'll think of something. Yes, Tricia Helfer was astonishing. I would have like Gaius' monologue more had I not spent the entire time saying, "Dude, do you not realize that that cell must be bugged?" And I'm kind of confused about how this incredibly advanced ship has survived any encounters with the Cylons, since I thought that's why Galactica was the only Battlestar to survive that first combat. Must go rewatch the mini-series...
