Really, I am NOT making this up. You have to see the picture and the video that goes with it.

Thanks to fellow Buffista tommyrot, who alerted me to this story....

Determined Squirrels Fill Woman's Car With Nuts

(WCCO) Fridley, Minn. A Twin Cities woman has a pesky problem with her new car: squirrels leaving nuts behind in her car.

"I was freaking out because I didn't want anything wrong with it since it's brand new," said Tiffany Smith, of Fridley, Minn.

Smith said she kept hearing strange noises coming from her car and thought there were rocks in her engine.

"I popped (the hood) open, looked under it and just screamed," Smith said.

Not rocks, but thousands of walnuts stashed under the hood. At first, Smith said she thought it was a prank, but she soon found a nest.

"She was crying, and I said, 'Isn't it just a little bit funny,' and she said 'Well, I guess kind of a little funny,'" said Kim Vertbrugge, Smith's mother.

The squirrels continue to pull their gags on Smith. She keeps cleaning out the car, but the squirrels continue to fill it back up.

"There has to be more than one doing it though," Smith said. "It can't be just one squirrel. There are way too many walnuts."

Smith checked with her insurance company and it said this kind of damage is not covered. She is trying a spray repellant around the car, but so far it has not deterred the determined squirrels.

:D

One of my friends had her roof invaded by squirrels. Apparently they are worse than rats and destroyed everything in her attick and stole food... I guess the whole cute thing is just a front. *g*

They work the cute thing for all they can get! :-)

This is HYSTERICAL! And much funnier than my friend who had a skunk living under her hood.

Less smelly, too!

I'm not worried at all! My squirrels are more likely to create a ZPM on the deck...

Hee! Ms. Heuradys and the Squirrels of NIMH!

There are going to be some surprised cats in your neighborhood....

I had Norway Rats build a massive nest in my engine and eats wires, so squirrels may be just as bad. Unfortunately, it's not completely funny, given the damage they can do.

Oh goodness yes, I hadn't remembered that incident! I sure hope they didn't go after her wires, I know she shows off some insulation they chewed out!

The rats chewed the wires on a particular component in my newer Legacy, too. The component governed the car being able to go faster than about 25 mph, so the entire component had to replaced. It cost around $300.00 and we had to replace it twice!!!

Little bastards.

Wonder if the moth balls worked (suggested by the news person on the video)

It looked like she was tossing the walnuts out onto the lawn... so that the enterprising squirrel(s) could pick them back up and store them again. I suspect squirrelly brains are smarter than hers.... :-)
