Hey, they even automated it!

  1. battlestar galactica:
AKA BSG, AKA BattleWagon Hysterica. I never never NEVER expected to like this series. The miniseries didn't exactly grab me, though I could see it was made well. I didn't get around to watching the first couple of episodes, and then around about the time my next interest, CKR, showed up for a single episode, I found myself caught up and haven't yet looked back.
  2. callum keith rennie:
aka CKR, aka Ray Kowalski. What's not to like? I can really see the comparison to Humphrey Bogart sometimes -- not classically beautiful, but sex on a stick if he chooses to turn it on. A mesmerizing actor who should be way more famous than he is.
  3. diana wynne jones:
Strangely enough, not much known as DWJ. I came late to her books, aimed at an audience much younger than me, so it wasn't until the early 90s that I really discovered her. Her plots are intricate and strange and adrift in time and space. Quite possibly my favorite "children's" author.
  4. farscape:
I came late to this series, and am only sorry that I didn't get into it when it was being created. The cast and crew are both so intelligent and personable.
  5. headstones:
All things considered, I'm surprised the Headstones aren't better known in goth music, because at heart Hugh Dillon is a very dark and grim writer of songs. Interesting to see the progression of their music, becoming more sophisticated and bitter with each album. Fave song: "Cubically Contained"
  6. johnny depp:
First there is the pretty... and then you start noticing that he's not only a truly great melt-into-the-quirky-character actor, he loves the challenge of his craft and the fun, or drama, or angst that he portrays. Plus, there's the pretty....
  7. malcolm in the middle:
I thought the past season had faded from the heights of quirkiness and funny that previous has hit, but it's still a damn good show most weeks. Bring back Francis's subplots, OK?
  8. pirates of the caribbean:
I probably should think about removing it -- or else, put another 20 or so movies that I love on the list. I was pretty high on that movie when I generated my first interest list, I suppose. Not that I'm sorry I listed it, it's that good.
  9. squirrel nut zippers:
Along with discovering classic jazz these past few years, I've run across a couple more or less contemporary bands such as them. At first I didn't care for the squeaky-voiced chick singer, but then she began to grow on me, because it's clear that she's doing that on purpose. Also, the trumpeter appears to have been weaned on all of Louis Armstrong's greatest hits. Fave song: "Blue Angel"
  10. the art of noise:
Like Brian Eno, they rock out when you least expect it, incorporating cool found sounds or getting an old battlehorse like Tom Jones to sing a Prince song with them. Fave Song: "Close to the Edit"
