Weekend Update

My Carless Weekend started off well, except for a nagging sore throat that developed late on Friday. I used that as an excuse for [livejournal.com profile] tsuki_no_bara to come over here even though technically it was her week to hostess, but R would have had to watch alone if I'd gone over. Plus I had a lot of snacks that would have gone begging, so....

SciFi Friday didn't let us down, so we spent a pleasant three hours, and I knitted a little. The sore throat had receded a bit, so I bade Tsuki good night and left her to trudge the block and a bit back to her place on her own. ::waves::

This morning, I got up and immediately noticed an incipient sniffle, which I dosed up with Sudafed and zinc lozenges. I don't think that I've had a real stinker of a cold or flu in over a year now, and I really don't want to lose my personal record.

However, the wedding of my good friend H was today, and I'd already made arrangements to get a ride from [livejournal.com profile] readsalot, so I added more cold medicine and took a wacking hot shower in an attempt to discourage illness, and had myself put together by the time R arrived.

The wedding was very nice -- brief wait for the ceremony to begin, short and very sweet ceremony, with H's kids as ringbearers and H's bride's kids as maids of honor (yep, they're going to be a Brady Bunch in miniature) -- then while the wedding party posed for pictures, we got hors d'ouevres and settled into our places at the tables.

I took my knitting along. I'm really enjoying it at parties and such where I can set up comfortably -- it gives me something to talk about, I can settle back and listen to friends talk or contribute while my fingers move along, and I also get the satisfaction of creating something neat. And somehow or other, I managed to complete another two repeats of the main body pattern of the test project, and then start on the top border, which will finish it off, into more or less a short runner or a guest towel. (Pictures soon to follow!)

(Especially thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aviatrix18 who encourages my knitting, and [livejournal.com profile] sophiap, who got me started on lace knitting back in May -- has it only been that long?)

The DJ played a lot of 80s tunes, and there was dancing, some of which I joined in, even. My incipient sniffle had receded, so I was quite content. I felt very lucky to be among such nice, fun people.

On the way home, we stopped off at a convenient Whole Foods supermarket, so I was able to pick up a couple of essentials. Came home, made dinner, did laundry, hung out on #primenotprime for a while, watched BSG again with the roommate, who had gone to bed last night before it ran (if anything it improves with a second watching -- there's a lot of subtlety on that show, as well as the skilled and obvious acting, writing, and plot twists. And knit some more... I've got about another hour's work before I finish it -- so exciting!
