From the Wilds of NJ

Made it down to NJ in one piece. My last-minute impulse was to cruise by the public Library and pick up a book on CD, so I made a quick decision and chose Krakatoa by Simon Winchester, which is reasonably fascinating, enough that I actually missed two important turns thanks to inadequate signage (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Through CD#3 (out of 12), we're still discussing the geological and biological and sociological history of the East Indies... we haven't yet gotten to the part where the volcano, you know, explodes.

Something to look forward to for the drive back.

Today I went and bought presents for the niece and a couple others for the nephews -- including a really rather neat book on Dragonology, a Calvin & Hobbes collection, Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky and a cute little beaded thing she can attach to her backpack. Plus a couple of other gifts for relatives... by the time I was all done, I handed Borders $198 in all. Ah well, it's not like I get to see them all that often.

No SciFi Friday for me... but it should be waiting on the TiVo when I get home, so all is well. And yeah, reruns.

Have I mentioned here that Firefly will be showing before the Friday night shows starting in July? Whoo!

OK, Mom wants to go out to the Hanes factory store outlet, so it's time for another expedition....

Is Winchester doing the reading? I had the audiobook of "The Professor and the Madman" which he did himself and found his reading worked very well with the text.

Yes, he is - nice cultured voice and all! I meant to mention that, but alas the brevity of my time to get on the computer worked against me. :-)
