Sucking on a Zinc Lozenge

It's citrus-y and not too bad, but the problem is it leaves my mouth tasting 'funny' for the next couple of hours. I'm not too hungry anyway, but still.

My suspicious sniffle from yesterday turned into a full-blown cold today, the first I've had in a good long while, at least six months -- I made it all the way through flu season, for instance. So I'm overdue!

So it was quickly apparent when I got up this morning, and my nose commenced running like a faucet, with my eyes tearing up. (I now know that your tear ducts actually drain into your sinuses... so when the sinuses swell up, that's why my eyes tear up so much in colds. Feh.)

Actifed helps, but it also sends me into a major tailspin so far as consciousness goes. So I spent a whole lot of the day lying down. I got up for a while and watched a whole lot of Twitch City and two old Farscape episodes from the TiVo that I've been saving for a couple years. Also I got out my crochet hook, pulled out the Gatsby Cloche design from Stitch Diva and started in on it. A couple hours later, I've got at least halfway, so that's something....

(Twitch City, which I've been watching with an eye to vidding, is really quite impressive, because there's a whole lot of lovely camera angles and set pieces, and wordless reaction shots. Despite this being at least the third time I've watched it through, I'm still picking up on new details. Someday, I want a pristine DVD set of all this!)

Two things saved the day:

First, I was able to get my hands on a couple of tickets for the May 26th encore showing of Serenity here in Boston, so I'll be able to share that with some more friends!

And [livejournal.com profile] theamusedone's DVD of Whiskey Echo arrived, right on a day that I needed some entertainment. So that's good, too.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the latest Actifed dose to run its course, and trying to convince myself that the house heat is set high, rather than me running a temp.... Oh, and everything tastes funny, did I mention this?

Ugh, hope you feel better soon. I've got that annoying sniffle thing going on myself at the moment. Whatever generic version of pseudoephedrine and guaifenesin together you can get your hands on is the best stuff. Friends of mine always pimp the zinc lozenges and vitamin c, but I've never been able to tell any effects one way or the other.

I love Twitch City. I wish it would come out on DVD too.

(My sister was co-editor of her HS yearbook with the guy who plays Nathan.)

Oooh, Whiskey Echo - can I dare request you send that along to [livejournal.com profile] askye to make up for my lack of taping ability? Or maybe, pretty please, ask your friend to make her another copy?

ugh. to me, zinc lozenges taste like ass ash. I recommend ginger tea and Emergen-C for keeping colds at bay.

For me, it's ginger tea, grapefruit juice, and Gatorade (not all at once, though--yuck.) I find that Gatorade goes down very easily when my throat hurts, more so than anything else, and thus keeps me hydrated. Grapefruit juice also soothes my throat, and ginger tea makes everything better.

The Emergen-C does the job for me that Gatorade does for you. It's got vitamins and enzymes and whatnot. You can also drink it hot or cold, depending on your mood.
