If It's Wednesday, These Must Be My Pictures

Crafty news: I used up two of the three colors on hand for the chunky ripple afghan on Sunday -- ran out of the light green just about ten stitches from the end of the row, damn it. After deliberating a little, I've decided to go ahead and buy three more skeins and make this a big ol' Afghan.

But until I do that, I might as well keep busy, so I've turned to conquering socks. And just to make it interesting, I'm making serious attempts to master Continental-style knitting, where the yarn is carried and manipulated by the left hand -- which will be much kinder on my right wrist, which is starting to complain with all the extra motions to move the yarn around and then knit stitches. After much trial and error, I'm getting consistently up to a respectable speed -- the key seems to be to go even looser than I've been doing, and I was loose to start with, or so I thought.

Anyway...

It's about 2/3rds done, and as you can see, already pretty huge. I think I'm just going to give in and buy three more skeins of these colors.

New knitting experience: socks! Specifically, trying to translate the instructions in my mind to make sense of "turning" a heel, which does seem to be working pretty good here. The sock is way too large as is, so it will be all ripped back and reknit now that I have a clue....

You know, with all the busy on the weekend, and then quite the busy work week... I've somehow lost track of the idea that I'm going to see Serenity tomorrow night! Eeeeeeeeeee!

Love the CKR icon. Could you please tell me what it's taken from? Thanks. =>}

I can answer the icon question! -- it's from Double Happiness. Which is a fabolous film that you must see. CKR and Sandra Oh.

I've seen a few movies with CKR in them, but not that one! He looks so cute! =>}

What 'skye said. He was just a wee dorky baby at the time. It's a small role but a really nice one. Evidently those are his real glasses at the time, since he was recovering from an eye injury. It's really a pretty wonderful film!

Yeah, that eye injury! Glass! Ouch! =<{

So what's the one with the cowboy hat from? =>}

I don't remember -- I think Heuradys found them. She says that they're either from "Ranger, Cook and the Hole in the Sky" or "Lonesome Dove".

Whichever... he's so yummy there.

He's yummy just about everywhere. I think my favourite after Due South is Wilby Wonderful. He's so darn sweet and sexy in that.

I've never heard of that movie and the only Lonesome Dove ep I've seen is the one with Nick Lea in it! =>}

And Sandra Oh! That's where I first saw her, in this movie.

I don't get premium movie channels, so I missed the whole "Arli$$" series thing, which Oh was also in. But I remember her and CKR from Double Happiness.

Double Happiness is a damn good movie!

Chumley is so adorable! Such a pretty cat. And I love the afghan.

Your cat is adorable! (I wish I could have a cat where I live but it's too expensive.)

I've somehow lost track of the idea that I'm going to see Serenity tomorrow night!

Shut it. *pouts*

Chumley (or Cholmondeley, as its otherwise spelt) looks eminently foofy and squoojable. Beautimous boy.

And I'm *incredibly* jealous about the whole Serenity-seeing. Jealous. Incredibly.

What do you mean "see Serenity tomorrow night"?

Did I miss an earlier announcement about this?

The long and short of it is that the studio authorized an advance showing in Boston this week -- well in advance of the September release. My friend Adina, by dint of much trying, managed to get her hands on some tickets. (I tried myself, including going down to the theatre box office on my lunch hour, but no joy.) So it looks like I'm going to see it months and months in advance, and then have to wait to see it again, while not being able to talk about it... sigh.

The motive of the studio is to impress the theatre chains with the turnout, so that they'll be inclined to book long stays for the movie, et cetera. I'm very pleased that the trailer looks so very good -- fingers crossed!

I think I need a pea-green icon.
