In Which I Have a Guest

Had [livejournal.com profile] farwing over to watch stuff, mainly Hard Core Logo which was very gratifying, because she really really got it, AND laughed at all the funny stuff, too, and didn't miss a single one of the bits that some people find slashy. Also, it's a good film in and of itself.

We followed it up with the Due South episode "Asylum" which was a good palate cleanser, and then I showed her a couple of scenes from Torso so she could compare and contrast 1930s Detective CKR with RayK CKR.

We also made blueberry muffins, though this mix wasn't as good as the Duncan Hines one. Still, fresh muffins are good, and so was the company.

I had a sick day today, so I spent rather a lot of time cleaning and organizing. Among my other innovations was cleaning out the cabinet next to the stove, where my roommate has been stowing plastic grocery bags. I mean, I knew she was doing it, but I hadn't realized that her collection had grown so enormous... they took up like six grocery bags stuffed full of them by the time I'd pulled them all out. I have no idea what to do with them, you can't recycle them, and it seems somehow sinful to just throw them out....

In a fit of anality, I also organized all the paper bags, but that was simpler and also more satisfying, since they fold nice.

No sign of The Mouse. I suppose it's too much to hope that like a Borrower, once seen the mouse will feel obliged to move on.

Our supermarkets accept them back for recycling. Yours might, too, if your town's recycling program doesn't.

As a multiple dog (and cat) owner, I say find a dog park and secure them to the nearest bench. They'll be put to excellent use, I assure you.

Too bad it's not feasible to mail 'em to Canada.

Cheers,

we use the plastic bags to line the bathroom/bedroom wastebaskets.

Almost all grocery stores in the Bay Area have big bins outside their doors for the collection and recycling of plastic grocery bags. I use fabric bags for my own shopping, but collect/take the plastic bags in which newspapers arrive at home and to the special library in our office building to the local Safeway plastic bag recycling bin. Try calling your local waste disposal co. to see what's around in your area? There must be something.

I wish you could send them to me! That's what I use when I'm cleaning the cat litter boxes. I go through a lot of them.
