Smooth Sailing to Somerville

Well, mostly smooth, anyway.

I scuttled like a scuttling thing for my gate after I made my last post -- I'd misread the terminal map and I was significantly further from my gate than I had anticipated, like by about a mile easily. But it turned out the airport tram did run in the direction I needed and one was pulling up just as I ran past, so all turned out well. It would have been very embarrassing to show up at the airport nearly three hours early and then be late for the plane....

There was no offer to upgrade to first class on this flight. This was because, when I got on the plane, there was no first class. Jet was too small or something -- it was 4 across all the way down, 2 & 2. I think we only had one attendant.

It turned out that I'd used all my luck on this portion of the trip up on the fact that the guy with the cute 1yo child in his lap voluntarily moved to the only open row in the whole plane... leaving me the only passenger on the plane with an empty seat beside her. So I was significantly less cramped and the potentially crying child was several rows away.

I watched Stargate: Aquarium from last Friday on my laptop on the plane, and was well-amused, and didn't manage to entirely run down my battery.

And finally, the matter that had concerned me on the trip out turned out well in the end: I found my car. I lucked into a very personable parking shuttle driver, and after some close questioning about which way I turned and what normal routes the van takes (it went right past me and stopped when I waved), we cruised through the far far section, deemed most likely by us both, of the parking lot very slowly while I clicked my door-opener like a mad clicking thing, until we saw my little car lighting up. Hurrah! Not only had I found my car, we'd proved the battery still worked!

The drive down to Boston was very deserted, I suspect much more so than normal even for midnight on a weeknight. There were a number of warning signs up that access to 93 between 128 and Boston (of which Somerville is the next to last town on that, and the closest big highway to my house) was restricted to locals between 4 PM and 1 PM. I thought I'd see how close they'd let me get, since I'm pretty confident of navigating homeward if I got sent off before my regular exit... but I didn't have any trouble at all, passing road crews taking up traffic cones that had been put up earlier in the day, preparing for the morning non-rush-hour, I guess.

So far both Chumley and Muppet have taken turns curling up on the bed with me, and I haven't seen Yum Yum at all. Eventually, I suppose I'll sleep....

I am so glad you made it home in one piece! Did you have a good time?

Yes, a very good time! I wish there had been more free time to explore Stillwater, but what I saw of it was excellent, anyway. And it was too cool for words to spend time again with H, and meet Alex and Doll in person!

I'm so glad you were able to find your car! Hope you enjoyed your adventures in Minnesota! *hug*

I so did! Thank you for being part of them, I can't begin to say how cool that was!

It was a great relief to find the damn car. Usually I manage to make careful mental notes on the location. I had visions of me tromping through the parking lot, in the dark, in the rain, dragging my heavy bags in a fruitless quest to find it. Instead I got dropped off right in front of it!

How do you record TV on DVD? Do you have a DVD recorder hooked up to your TiVO, or do you do something more cool than that?

Actually I downloaded an MPG file via the Internet -- they're posted pretty quickly these days. Since I am actually TiVoing those shows for later viewing, AND I've been collecting them on DVD, I'm at a tip-point for small amounts of guilt on that. Also I got to watch the show that much sooner.

Where do you find the MPG files?
