Somewhere In The Cities

I was having so much fun last night that I totally forgot that it was Stargate(s) night! Happily I can use [livejournal.com profile] heuradys's network connection to download them for later viewing, as I've been doing -- I'm now at 55.2% for SG1 and 29.2% for Aquarium, so they will indeed be mine!

[livejournal.com profile] heuradys and [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf met me at Baggage Claim last night and whisked me off to a Mexican restaurant where I had tortilla soup and a blue margarita nearly the size of my head. Okay, so I only drank a little of it, but still the thing was impressive in terms of size and especially color, which had the added effect of turning my tongue blue.

The company was very good, too, of course. H has the Headstones on CD in her Foxmobile so we listened to that as we cruised along.

The cruising wasn't so good earlier, though -- my escape from Boston was rather unexpectedly traffic intensive. Through no fault of my own ::adjusts halo:: I left my house around three to drive myself up to the Manchester Airport, and Rt 93 North was already a zoo, which reintensified every time it lost a lane or crossed another major highway. You would think that every person who possibly could was fleeing the Boston area... which may actually be true, as the Democratic National Convention is happening starting Friday night when they start to shut down the major artery through the city for 'security.'

Even so, I really didn't expect that much traffic on Friday at 3 -- I would have thought things would have started to get going at 4, maybe 4:30. I wonder if every one of them thought like me and that they were beating the traffic....

So my 45 minute drive turned into more like a 75 minute drive, which is longer than I'd hoped for, but still managed to give me enough time to stand in line at the ticket counter, stand in line at security (which was much shorter than the lines at Logan or BWI, the last two that I've been through), get bottled water and some candy, and then go and sit down near my gate just when they started calling my row.

Big luxury indulgence of the trip (at least until something else shiny comes along, perhaps): When I got my ticket from the automated Northwest machine, it asked if I wanted to upgrade to a first class seat for $75. Now, normally I'd hesitate a whole lot longer, but hey -- the regular-class airfare was paid by my company! So any amount I put towards an upgrade for first class is out of the $$$ I didn't spend on the regular airfare. So... why the heck not, at least on the trip out, where arriving just a little less tired and a little less cramped makes for a more enjoyable trip. When I get back home I'm going to be dead anyway, so there'd be a whole different calculation.

First Class wasn't all that special, except that the seat is a whole lot bigger and has much more legroom. I read my book, wrote more story in my journal, and then played with my laptop. You get a nice tray for your dinner, too, and only the knife was plastic... though I think you could put somebody's eye out with the fork if you really wanted.

I'm not really sure it was worth $75, but like I said, when that's all I'm personally paying for this flight, well OK....

Soon we'll be off to a fun day of Seeing Things and Hanging Around, and possibly some Eating and Snarking.

(Oh, and the downloads now? 71.7% and 39.5%)
