Sundaydaydaydaydayday
Let's see... how about a numbered list? I haven't done a list in a long time! Cool!
0. (Yeah my lists start with zero... I've been programming a lot this week, with arrays, OK?) For some reason, LiveJournal hasn't been sending me all the replies people have been sending me -- I know for a fact that I'm missing at least two, one from here and one from a reply to another LJ. So if you think I'm being lame for not answering a question or something, it could really be that I didn't get it. Feh.
1. I had an unexpected burst of energy late last afternoon and while it lasted I did a whole lot of cleaning on the back porch, so I can sit out there in the evening and write or whatever! For some reason, the wireless signal from my router doesn't reach down there (despite it being literally no more than 15 feet straight up and through a roof and a wall -- don't ask me why it doesn't work) which means I could actually get quiet writing time in the evening after the sun goes down and the mosquitos come out. Usually I have to go out in the backyard for that....
2. I found Episode 9 of Wonderfalls up at suprnova this morning. Soon it shall be mine! Mwahahaha!
3. Despite my whining last night on IRC I was indeed able to finally settle on some recs that I feel good about... and they turned out to be three short Vecchio-centered pieces, two of them by Kat Allison. Looking back on my recs so far (I have links to them all saved in my Memories now), I'm semi-surprised to see my recommendations have tended towards the gen side of the street. It's probably no big surprise that I'm a fan of plots, but really I hadn't expected I'd be making two entries that were entirely Vecchio-centric (the other was back on May 15, with Pares's excellent "Mr. In-Between" which really has been unjustly overlooked IMHO).
Although it's true that of the other six entries, three count as outright slash, and I'm still not sure what "RealPersons--The Voyage Home" counts as. At any rate, it's been interesting to make these recs and see what I come up with, even if I fret about it way too much.
In some ways, coming in on the last team (it's gone on for just nearly a year, 7 reccers - one for each day of the week -- for two month intervals) is quite difficult, because a lot of the obvious choices have been snapped up -- and by obvious I don't mean the most popular/famous either, because by and large the really excellent stories get recommended all over the small world of DS fandom, so the small pool of recommendable good stories gets smaller and smaller -- and I think I recommended only one story that is less than a year old, as by and large I don't trust my opinion of something that soon. If I can remember a story after a year has gone by, there's definitely something about it that touched me deeply.
4. Nausicaa.net has a (2 minute, 18 megs) Japanese-language trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle that looks great. Thanks to
kaneko who found it in the first place!
(
theamusedone, Miyazaki is the guy who did Castle in the Sky -- his other stuff is just as good!)
5. Huh... I can't even do short lists, can I? Oh well. Azureus tells me that I have approximately 1 hour 21 minutes left before I can watched Episode 9, so I probably should do laundry and some of those other pesky house-tasks that all the cool kids do on their weekends....
