my french toast burger thing

I must confess... I really have a thing for Burger King's French Toast Sticks. They're greasy and chewy and mildly sweet, and I prefer them without syrup, and if I had them as often as I wanted, it would be every day, which wouldn't be at all good. So, I've come to a compromise with myself... if I get into work so late that I miss the end of the cafeteria breakfast (where I usually get a bagel with margarine on it) then I can run across the street and buy it instead.

And this works, mostly. Usually, if I'm late, I'm feeling stressed, either because of whatever it was that made me late, or else because of the simple fact that I'm late, y'know? So there's a little bit of a reward built into the system, a booby prize for screwing up, one that's so little that my conscience is eased, and also so minor that I'm unlikely to be unconsciously booby-trapping myself into being late to get the French Toast Sticks.

I also admit to actually liking this Burger King, which is probably as pleasant as one gets. It's always clean, the counter staff is always prompt and cheerful and sometimes terribly earnest, and they play classical music on the PA system.

They also seem to recognize me, which is a little worrisome -- maybe I've been coming in too often of late. Anyway, when I came in today (getting through the snow-covered sidewalks of Somerville was tough work), the counter girl immediately hauled out an OJ carton and rang up my usual French Toast Sticks purchase before I opened my mouth. It's dauntingly efficient....
