Not Quite There Yet....

I wouldn't call it D O N E done, but I have finished including all beta comments and suggestions. The MS came in at 275, currently it's resting comfortably, as I'm hoping for a few last comments on a substantially rewritten last chapter... and even as I let my tiny whirling brain rest tonight, I'm still thinking back to scenes in earlier chapters and various tweaks that somehow never occurred to me until now.

So it's not done. But it's really close.

That's pretty much been my weekend, though I escaped last night and went adventuring with [livejournal.com profile] veejane and our mutual Buffista friend DebetEsse -- we mostly just walked around the Waterfront and through the Business District (lovely and deserted in the early warm Saturday evening) and on into Chinatown where we had dinner.

We stopped off for a long time at the outside of the Aquarium, where we were enchanted by two seals resting in their outdoor pen, one of which made enchanting large doe eyes at us, and occasionally some minor business, like covering its eyes with a flipper. Alas that we had no fish to throw! It was fascinating to see, from a close distance through the thick plexiglass how the seal could close up its muscular nostrils, and that it has five nails on each of its flippers. (I guess there must be something to this "mammal" business after all.)

[livejournal.com profile] veejane and DebettEsse were excellent and fun adventurers and we talked about many varied things as we walked and then ate Chinese food at a restaurant with live fish -- and crabs and lobsters and shrimp -- which we got to watch the waiters wrestle from their containers. So it turned out to be a rather nautical-themed expedition.

Today, rather less exciting. I wrestled the last chapter to the ground, which was a protracted struggle that ran me something like 8 hours straight, including two sitting outside at my patio table as the temperature dropped a good ten degrees, until I had to come in because my hands were numb! Still it was good to spend the time outside with the birds chirping. Even if my garden is such a sad mess at this point, I really needed to rake and start digging up weeds and replanting good plants that have strayed outside their bounds. But, the Body Swap called, and believe me I so want to get that sucker finished.

Close, really close, but no cigar yet, OK? I'm actually pretty pleased with how the last chapter whipped into shape, but it needs at least one night of sleep on it before I'd want to declare victory.
