Will You Be There (At the Love In)

I think my next project, after the Body Swap is done and posted (soon, soon, my pretties!) is to try my hand at vidding, if only so that I can still the little voice inside that looks at the vid shows at ConneXions and loudly remarks that I could do better. Whether or not I can, if I give it a try at least I'll have some objective proof about it.

This was occasioned this morning by hearing The Chocolate Watchband's "Will You Be There (At the Love In)" and realizing that it would be the perfect backing for a remix of the Stargate SG-1 episode "1969" -- the one where they accidentally go back in time and interact with a very young and stiff Lieutenant George Hammond. Between the song's authentic era psychedelic sound and the lyrics, which have a lot to do with meeting up with yourself in space and time -- and since the episode in particular is about Hammond having known since 1969 that he's going to meet up with various members of the team, and that they'd go back in time and meet up with a younger him, the circular nature of the song fits perfectly. I could even open up the vid a little and throw in additional clips of Hammond through his interactions with the SG1 team to that point.

Plus, lyrics like "When I set that spark that starts the flame
That burns up in the souls that have been
Too late to be accounted for
I'll open up my door and let them in
" just cry out for a shot of the iris opening on the stargate itself, doesn't it?

Also I have a feeling that there just aren't a lot of Hammond-centric vids. Like Welsh, he's a great character in his own right, and played by an equally good character actor.

Plus, and this is important to me... it's a very good song, growly and putting the psyche in psychedelia while not forgetting to rock out. Far too many vids go for bland MOR which are pretty and soft. Besides, nothing says 'Stargate' quite like authentic 1960s psychedelic music....

Now I just have to figure out how to actually vid....
