all of this and a panoramic view of Rt I-95, too
Timelies! I'm sitting in the Best Western Baltimore at the Travel Plaza, which turns out to be above a Greyhound Station, so you know, a quick escape from the slashers is reassuringly close at hand.
I understand that Boston got six inches of rain yesterday, so I picked a good day to evacuate. It rained here, too, but I was indoors mostly. Met my old college roommate (Hi,
luscious_purple!) who is just as sweet and intelligent as I remembered, and we walked around the National Aquarium, talkingtalkingtalking with time out to say things like "Oh look! Nemo!" We ran into a talky docent and spent a half-hour in the Rain Forest free-flight aviary watching birds with her, since she knew where all of them hung out -- I think we impressed her because we'd been quiet and slow and had already picked out some of the birds that hung out being quiet and shy-like.
Then I was off to my Due South LiveJournal gang dinner party hosted by
reginagiraffe at a fabulous 1880-era Baltimore rowhouse with 12 foot ceilings and brass and glass chandeliers and much great conversation. The people were wonderful even if I got slightly overwhelmed at times and spent about two hours out on the back porch talking with small groups of smokers in the damp quiet (I could hear them and groups of less than four are the most socially reassuring situation for me).
I don't think I met everyone who was there, and of some of the ones who were there were some absolute fanfic goddesses of mine, but I managed not to fall down on my knees and worship them right there, because you know, so uncool. They may get their chance later, if I get them alone.... :-)
I did tell
reginagiraffe that I wanted to have sex with her house sometime during the evening. (I'm not sure how you do that, but I think rubbing the gorgeous pillars in her living room with my naked body would definitely be involved. Though, not in front of a crowd, because I think her house might be shy that way....)
So far this has been a fabulous trip, and the con hasn't even officially begun.
