Baltimore or Bust

I'm in Baltimore, in the hotel, in that lovely space between getting here and anything interesting starting. Which is OK, really, because I need an hour or two after the plane lands to get my head back to normal, or what passes for it.

Plane ride was a little bumpy but not like the kind I had this summer, where I didn't take out my laptop because I was afraid it would hit me in the face, seriously. And it was short -- only about an hour in the air, if that. It feels like you hardly get levelled out before you descend again.

I got a chatty shuttle driver, so we drove past the downtown area, and diverted into the Italian Restaurant Section which is probably called something like Little Italy. I told him I was going to a Science Fiction con, and made up a fictional husband who was going to home in Boston this weekend watching hockey with his friends. I felt very wicked, but it was easier than telling the truth. :-)

The Best Western is fairly utilitarian. Unfortunately for me, I've been staying in Ritz Carltons and so on for work travel, and it's raised my expectations about how luxurious hotels are supposed to be. I'll just have to survive somehow, banging rocks together and getting online with dialup. At least local calls are free, and due to the iPass setup my company laptop has, I shouldn't be getting a surcharge for getting online like this....

I'm waiting for my old college roommate [livejournal.com profile] luscious_purple to get here, so that we can go downtown and explore. Also I'd like to get some lunch!

Yup. Little Italy it is.

Check out the Inner Harbor if you get into the city. It's the touristy thing to do.

Ms. Purple is welcome to come to dinner, if she'd like to.

See you soon!

I like the part about the fictional husband watching hockey ... such a New England guy thing!

I really enjoyed seeing you again, and let's hope we can meet up at Noreascon Four or something! (If I indeed get to Noreascon Four, or at least to the three-day weekend part....)
